The Board of Assessment Appeals is designed to serve as an appeal body for taxpayers who believe that town assessors erred in the valuation of their properties or erroneously denied them exemptions. It is a review body, and as such serves independently of assessors. Taxpayer must make a written application on or before February 20, or March 20, if the Assessor has received an extension for the filing of the Grand List, and, at one of the meetings, offer or consent to be sworn in and give facts required by the Board. The Board meets in March to hear appeals, or April if the assessor was granted an extension for filing the Grand List.

All Departments. The Board of Assessment Appeals BAA is a group of elected members who are empowered by Connecticut State Statues to hear and make decisions regarding assessment appeals. The BAA holds hearings twice a year and each session is designated for specific types of assessments as described below. Unless otherwise provided by law, each town elects the board that is comprised of three members elected for a term of four years. The Statute now allows a municipality to appoint additional members to the BAA for any assessment year through its municipal legislative body.
Ridgefield is a beautiful, colonial town of approximately 24, people in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains in central Fairfield County, Connecticut. The town was founded in when about 30 families from Long Island Sound settlements bought these uplands The Board of Assessment appeals shall consist of three members serving four years each. Electors may vote for the same number of candidates as there are members to be elected to the Board at any election.
