They flew out Sunday night from Atlanta for a honeymoon in Ireland. By Monday morning, their wedding was the talk of Alabama. About people who attended were sworn to secrecy until after the event, with People magazine having an exclusive agreement to share the news. Deidre, a UAB obstetrician-gynecologist specializing in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and Abbott shared their joy from their honeymoon in a statement to AL. Their union may have left Alabama surprised and a little stunned, but perhaps also wowed by the boldness and beauty of the ceremony. I wish her the very best of everything.

AUSTIN - Attorney General Greg Abbott says Texas' same-sex marriage ban should remain in place because legalizing it would do little or nothing to encourage heterosexual couples to get married and have children. Writing in a brief filed to the 5th U. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday, Abbott said the state was not obligated to prove why gay marriage might be detrimental to the economic or social well-being of Texans. It was only required to show how opposite-sex marriage would be more beneficial for its citizens.

Ex-judicial panelists: Abbott ousted them over gay marriage
Tony Abbott 's daughter Frances has announced she will vote 'yes' for same-sex marriage in the postal vote. Despite her father's strong stance supporting the 'no' vote, the fitness blogger donned a white t-shirt with the words 'vote yes'. Frances Abbott, 26, posted a simple photo to Instagram Friday morning pictured , sharing her support for legalising gay marriage.

Like most, I have tried to be there for friends and family who are gay. They are good people who deserve our love, respect and inclusion but that doesn't mean that we can't continue to reserve the term "marriage" for the relationship of one man with one woman, ideally for life and usually dedicated to children. Like you, I want a country where everyone gets a fair go and where no one is discriminated against on the basis of race, gender, religion, political opinion or sexuality. We all want people to be appreciated for their achievements and for the quality of their character; not pigeon-holed and dismissed on the basis of prejudice. That, in fact, is the Australia we've had for years.
